What is your favorite getaway destination?
Without question Maui. I've been to most of all the islands of Hawaii but I have to say that Maui is has the best to offer as far as beautiful scenery, gorgeous getaways like the city of Hana, amazing beaches, and you don't feel overwhelmed by tourists, but it still has an awesome nightlife and many things to do. My grandparents actually own a condo at the Kamaole sands in Kihei so I travel there often.
Whats your favorite way to entertain when you're away?
I am actually an avid cook, so my favorite way of entertaining is to have a big BBQ with fresh Hawaiian Fish and veggies, lots of Mai Thais, and finish with a rowdy game of Texas hold 'em.
I like to play it by ear when I'm traveling. I love living in the moment and taking it day by day. In my travels I've found the best adventures and activities by just exploring the island or country I'm in and being open to new experiences and meeting new people.
What is it about the local culture that you love?
One thing that I love about the Hawaii is the laid back feel of life. Coming from such a hectic lifestyle in NYC, its nice to just sit back and relax with a coconut filled with piņa colada and talk with locals compare stories. I prefer Hawaii to the Caribbean because although both are tourist driven, Hawaiians are less pushy and seem to be more tolerant of your presence.
What are 3 basic essentials you take?
Sunscreen, Sunscreen, annnnd oh ya Sunscreen. I can't stress enough to always wear sunscreen, its so important! But other than that essential, I'd say an open mind, a camera with lots of memory, and enough money to get have a great time and to get home! I almost got stuck in Jamaica once, long story but definitely not fun.
What are your five favorite things about Maui?
Snorkeling, sushi, cliff jumping, sunsets, and the stars.
